"Breaking News: Massive 6.0 Earthquake Rocks Caribbean Sea! Is Venezuela in Danger?"

 A very strong magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in the Caribbean Sea near the coast of Venezuela on Saturday evening, June 22, 2024 at 23.58 local time (America/Caracas GMT -4). The earthquake had a moderate depth of 87 km (54 miles) and was felt over a wide area.

No significant damage or impact is expected from this earthquake and no special warning has been issued.A shallow earthquake measuring 5.9 was reported late at night near Guiria, Municipio Valdez, Sucre, Venezuela.

According to The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the earthquake occurred on Saturday, June 22 2024 at 23.57 local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes will feel stronger than deep earthquakes because they are located closer to the surface. 

The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake will likely be revised in the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.

Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Geoscience Research Center (GFZ) recording an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale. Other agencies that reported the same earthquake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

(EMSC) with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale, and the international project "Ayiti-Séismes" to detect earthquakes in the wider Haiti region with a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale. 

Based on preliminary seismic data, the earthquake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the epicenter area. This may cause mild to moderate damage. 

Moderate shaking is possible in Yaguaraparo (population 13,600) located 26 km from the epicenter, and Guiria (population 40,000) located 32 km away.In Porto Espana (population 49,000). 

located 117 km from the epicenter, the quake should have felt like a light shake.
